Internship Faculty Advisor
ARC Internships, a credit-bearing course, offers a vital complement to the studio training that SMFA students receive over the course of their studies. Internships take place at a range of sites, including commercial design firms, education programs, community gardens, new media facilities, non-profit arts organizations, galleries, museums, professional artist studios, and other environments.

A total of four (4) classroom meetings scheduled throughout the semester serve as a context for dialogue and exchange for enrolled interns. The internship faculty a dvisor is responsible for facilitating a productive and congenial atmosphere that encourages students to reflect on their hands-on training, how their internship relates to their individual studio practices, and ways to make the most of their experiential education as a stepping-stone to building a creative career. The internship faculty advisor is also responsible for advising each individual intern via e-mail or phone communication throughout the course of the semester, conducting a site-visit for each internship placement, and completing formal end-of-semester reports on each internship scenario.

Experience and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching are strongly desired. Candidates for the position will recognize the value of experiential education as an integral component to a formal studio arts training and have the ability to support and inform the bridging of the two for enrolled interns. Candidates will be knowledgeable about options and choices for artists within interdisciplinary spheres of the professional working world. Demonstrated experience as a practicing artist is expected, in addition to industry-specific experience in fields such as design, education, civic engagement, commercial business, or community arts, and/or organization management/program development.

Part-Time Lecturer, Department of Visual and Critical Studies

The Department of Visual and Critical Studies of Tufts University in affiliation with the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, announces a search for a lecturer to teach a total of two courses in one or two semesters for the academic year 2008–09. Our department seeks a scholar with demonstrated expertise in non-Western area(s) such as African, African Diaspora, Oceanian, Islamic, Pre-Columbian, and/or Colonial Latin American visual culture.

Experience and a demonstrated commitment to excellence in teaching are strongly desired. Critical and theoretical perspectives on visual art and cultural studies are defining aspects of this interdisciplinary department. Candidates must have the ability to teach survey and smaller upper-level courses in their non-Western field of expertise.

We are seeking a colleague who can contribute to the diversity and excellence of our academic and artistic community. Hence, the desire to teach in an art school setting and to interact with studio courses is an essential component of this appointment.

The Department of Visual and Critical Studies serves approximately 500 students. The Tufts University/SMFA partnership offers a BFA and dual degree BFA-BA degrees in several studio concentrations and emphasizes a cross-disciplinary focus.

Requirements: Ph.D. or ABD in art history required.

Models
Will assist instructors through posing for student artists as requested. Requires ability to pose for long, short and gesture poses. Must be able to remain still for 15–20 minutes and must be at least 21 years of age. Scheduled as needed on a temporary basis.
