Job details: Students may also train to conduct school tours (priority given to 2nd year students). These students will give 1.5 hour tours to prospective students and their families. They will serve as back-up tour guides for this fall and spring semester. For many prospective students and their families, the tour is an important deciding factor on whether or not they should enroll here. We are looking for students who are dependable, out-going, articulate, and are familiar with the School's programs, philosophy, and physical layout. Shifts available: The tour meets at 12 noon in the Admissions office Monday through Saturday.

For Fall 2008, this position has been created to assist in partnership development between SMFA and NOWAC (New Orleans Women Artists Collective). Building upon last year's relationship with NOWAC, responsibilities would include providing support for the "SMFA in NOLA" exhibition, facilitating a student-led fundraiser to support the rebuilding effort of New Orleans culture, and assisting the IACE develop further opportunities for students through this partnership. Specific tasks would include administrative support, student representation at partnership meetings, collaborating with student leaders at SMFA and ProArts schools, and serving as a liaison with the Development Office, Student Affairs, SBlnc., and NOWAC. Position requires strong leadership and communication skills, experience organizing events, knowledge of the SMFA school community, and a demonstrated commitment to art and civic engagement. This position is 10 hours per week; schedule flexible and to be arranged.

Responsibilites: The ARC is seeking applicants with strong computer and writing skills to enter artist resource information into our Web-based index artSource, and into our office databases (Microsoft Access). Other responsibilities will include answering phones, taking messages, keeping job books up-to-date and orderly, photocopying, and researching arts-related information. Requirements: Requires organizational and communications skills, and comfort with handling a variety of tasks simultaneously. Experience using Access and Excel is a strong plus. This will include lectures, exhibitions, electronic signage, special events, and other programs. This is a part-time position totaling 10 hours per week for the duration of the semester. Essential Functions: - Deliver, set up, and operate media equipment for hundreds of events annually held at the Museum's auditoriums, meeting rooms, restaurants, and galleries. - Strive for excellence in customer satisfaction, providing timely delivery, accurate set up, and skilled operation of relevant equipment, from projectors and computers to microphones and sound systems. - Maintain media components and systems within the facilities, including routine daily checks of installed exhibitions that incorporate media. - Participate in sound checks and other setup checks needed to ensure the quality execution of events. - Provide technical assistance and instruction as needed to ensure end users can successfully operate equipment such as projectors and laptops. - Provide audio and/or video documentation of events as needed. - Complete basic multimedia production tasks ranging from format conversions, DVD burning, PowerPoint assembly, and other production as needed. - Comfortable with both Windows and Macintosh operating systems. Secondary Elements - Assist in cleaning, storing, and otherwise maintaining equipment in good repair. - Professional attitude and organized work habits a must. - Excellent written and spoken communication and well-developed collaboration skill required. - Afternoon/evening shift will require evening and weekend work and occasional on-call or holiday work. These carts will be used to teach visitors about the different artistic techniques in the galleries. They will include tools and materials as well as artist-created demonstration panels showing the different techniques. This is an informal program, allowing visitors to stop by the cart, ask questions, and learn more about the techniques they see in the galleries. The carts will be in the galleries on Saturdays and Sundays, 11 am–4 pm. Staff will not be actually demonstrating, because of the close proximity of the Museum's artwork, but will explain the techniques in an informal teaching environment. The carts to be launched in 2008 feature painting and mosaic, and we seek students familiar with these techniques. Training will be provided as well. This position is an opportunity for students to work with the public, gaining teaching skills and sharing their own experience as artist.

Duties: - Sign in to the lab log book - Supervise the room at all times to prevent the theft of or damage to equipment. - Never leave the lab unattended. - Report problems in writing or e-mail to the Sound Studio manager. - Keep the sound room clean. - Prohibit the entry of any food or beverage into the lab for any reason. - Remove all trash from the lab at the end of each shift. - Safely power up and power down all equipment. - Remove any non-standard patches - Coil and replace cables on the wall - Cover mixer. - Replace chairs under the tables in an orderly fashion. - Organize each station with its proper equipment. - Ensure that the room is ready for the next mornings class. - Provide technical support to lab users - Have a good working knowledge of Protools 7.0 LE, Max/MSP4.5 Jitter, and Ableton Live 6. - Maintain an atmosphere conducive to work. - Admit users to the Sound Studio A201b according to the Sound Area Lab Policy. - Follow all the guidelines described in the Sound Area Lab Policy. - Perform other duties in A201 or A201b as directed by the Sound Studio manager.

The monitor aids students, answers questions, makes sure the room is clean, and closes up at the end of the night. Shifts are Monday–Friday, 5–10 pm and Saturdays 12–8 pm. A monitor may work one or two shifts per week. Proficiency in Final Cut Pro is essential. The student must have successfully completed video coursework (Video 1 or equivalent) and feel comfortable aiding other students.

Organizational skills and attention to detail necessary. The Museum of Fine Arts Libraries and Archives has become a member of ARTstor, an image collection over 900,000 images of art. The School of the Museum of Fine Arts' Visual Resources Library's Digital Image Collection will be hosted by ARTstor in January. VRL's digital images and excel sheets will be submitted to ARTstor. ARTstor's institutional Hosting Program will use excel sheets to create their ARTstor Core Database for the VRL's Digital Image Collection. Join the VRL Team!
