Graduate Programs

The Museum School offers two programs leading to the master’s degree: the Master of Fine Arts (MFA) and the Master of Arts in Teaching in Art Education (MAT). Graduate degree students are enrolled at both the Museum School and Tufts University, and graduate with an MFA or MAT degree from Tufts.

Successful applicants to the graduate programs are college graduates with a degree in the visual arts or the equivalent, coupled with a portfolio that demonstrates artistic maturity.

Please note: Applicants to the SMFA/Northeastern University Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art program apply directly to Northeastern. There are a limited number of places available in the new SMFA/Northeastern joint degree program. If you are interested in studying at the SMFA, we encourage you to apply to both the Northeastern and Tufts joint degree programs.

For Northeastern application information, please contact the Graduate School of Northeastern's College of Arts and Sciences at 617-373-5990 or gsas@neu.edu. For Tufts application information, choose a program from the navigation bar to the left.
