International Students

The SMFA welcomes international students to our bachelor’s degree programs. In your application, we’re looking for a strong portfolio, as well as other indicators that you’re a good match for the School. These include your previous schooling and the quality and content of the essays that are part of your application.

Here’s how to apply:

  • Check our deadlines. If you submit your application after the priority deadline for your program, your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
  • Submit the Application for Admission with the $80 application fee and one essay (or a personal statement). You can download the application (pdf) or request a paper application.
  • Arrange for your high school or college transcript(s) to be sent to the Admissions Office both originals and translated versions.
  • Submit a portfolio for review.
  • Have your TOEFL scores sent directly to the Admissions Office.
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a statement of purpose describing why you want to become an art teacher (BFA in Art Education only).
  • Combined-Degree applicants only: Submit a separate application to Tufts. To obtain a Tufts application, visit www.tufts.edu.
  • Submit evidence of financial ability. You’ll need documentary evidence of sufficient financial resources to satisfy all educational and living expenses for a one-year period of study.
  • Explore financial aid & scholarships.
