About Boston

Home to more than 60 colleges and universities and 56 museums, Boston is a great place to live, study, and play.

You’ll find concerts, independent movie houses, coffeehouses, comedy clubs, poetry slams—and a lot of art. Newbury Street, Fort Point, and the South End are active gallery areas, and you’ll find at least 40 additional galleries in many other areas of the city and surrounding areas.

Boston is also a young city (100,000 students!), which means that the cultural scene is constantly changing—with new film festivals, theatre groups, and music groups (in addition to its many well-established cultural institutions).

Harvard Square’s eclectic street performers are just across the Charles River. The Back Bay boasts a dizzying range of shops and eateries. And the Fenway, where the SMFA is located, offers plenty of green areas for peace and quiet.
