International Applicants

International students are welcome to apply to the Pre-College Summer Studio. In addition to the materials listed on the Application Guidelines page, international students must also submit the following:

TOEFL Scores
International students must forward the official results of the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL). A minimum score of 550 (on paper), 213 (on the computer), or 7980 (on the Internet) is required for admission. It is important that foreign applicants register for the earliest possible TOEFL test date. The TOEFL is administered worldwide. For information and a test application form, please contact TOEFL, Box 89908541, USA. The School’s Educational Testing Service Number is 3794.

International Student Information Sheet
Additionally, all non-U.S. citizens must complete an International Student Information Sheet and return it to the Continuing Education Office with supporting documents. Contact the Continuing Education office at 617-369-3644 or coned@smfa.edu to request an International Student Information Sheet.

Statement of Financial Eligibility
The Statement of Financial Eligibility is required of all applicants from countries other than the United States. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service requires that all applicants submit documentary evidence of sufficient financial resources to satisfy all educational and living expenses for a five-week period of study. The estimated costs for tuition (with room and board), art supplies, personal expenses and local transportation are listed below.

The estimated costs for participation the Summer Studio will be available soon.

International students are not eligible for need-based scholarships.

Visa and Passport
In order to enter the United States, you must possess a current visa and a passport valid for six months beyond your intended stay in the United States. You can apply for a student visa (F1) at the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. At the time of your visa application, you must present your Form I-20 (Certificate of Eligibility for Non-Immigrant F-1 Student Status) from the Museum School to the embassy or consulate officer. The Form I-20 is issued only after you have paid your deposit and submitted a Statement of Financial Eligibility.

Please note: Visa applications take 48 weeks to process. Because of this, international students should start the Summer Studio application process in February 2008.

For more information, contact the Continuing Education office at 617-369-3644 or coned@smfa.edu.
