"This multi-media installation of works that I have been developing for the past year and a half engages feelings of loss, mourning and compassion. The work started out as an expression of outrage and sorrow at my own personal losses of people and relationships. But as I worked I started to realize that I’m not the only person who experiences pain, and my losses are minuscule compared to those of many others who are actors in the shocking theater of misery filling our screens. So I tried to include that awareness in the work. Many people hide their tears, even from themselves. Not hiding the tracks of my own tears led to this installation, an installation which creates a space to regard the sadness of loss in a way that gently cuts through our passive or willful avoidance of those very feelings."
