"The images of The
Painter's Studio series were taken while I was dating my future husband. He is a painter and at the time he lived on Reade Street in
New York City, three streets away
from where the Twin
Towers stood. After the terrible
events that occurred on September 11,
2001, my husband was taken away from his space. When he came back to
it after a few weeks, I visited him every day to make sure he was all right
and coping. He could barely paint at the time
so I created The Painter’s Studio
series at that moment, to bring back life and happiness, where there was
only sadness all around us.
I used his studio and his paintings as my point of departure
for the series referring as well to Picasso's The Painter and his Model series. It is
a very personal body of work and it represents for me the triumph of love, and
seduction over the immense pain that was inside us.
The studio no longer exists, we had to move in 2003 and leave
it behind us…" For additional artists who are interpreting world events,
