NEW SERVICES AT THE VISUAL RESOURCES LIBRARY

Students can now have their artwork digitally photographed at a reasonable cost. The Visual Resources Librar (VRL) welcomes student requests for digital images! Take advantage of this great service! Digital imaging includes automated image sharpening and color calibration followed by fine-tuning in Photoshop.

JPEGS and/or TIFFS can be created for students. JPEG files are approximately 1024 x 768 pixels or 1½ MB. TIFF files are 300 dpi. Students are given a CD/DVD of their images. The Visual Resources Library also burns a CD/DVD of each work order for their files.

For more information about having your artwork photographed click here.

SMFA UNDERGRADUATE OPTION FOR SUMMER STUDIO SPACE

Studio space at 230 The Fenway will be available (to SMFA undergraduate students enrolled at the School during the 07/08 school year) for rental this summer from May 26 through August 15. If you choose to rent a studio during the summer months, you will be given a private space within a group studio. Summer building hours for the Museum School will determine studio access. Summer access policy is outlined in the Undergraduate Student Handbook.

Read the Rental Guidelines and download the Rental Application for more information.

STUDENTS INVITED TO PARTICIPATE IN COMMITTEE SYSTEM
What are Faculty Committees?
The School’s Faculty Committee System was established several years ago as a means of School governance and for conducting Faculty and School business. Committees are primarily made up of faculty members, but most include representation from students and staff members. Each of the 12 committees with student seats are charged with specific areas of oversight, including: curriculum, budgets, technology, exhibitions, etc. A full list of committees is included at the end of this message; check out the Student Handbook for full descriptions of each of the committees.

Why should you participate?
Students on committees are the representatives and liaisons for their peers in the institution’s decision making processes. It is an opportunity to influence change in all areas of the School. However, the role carries a responsibility and accountability to the student body to represent their best interests. Committee work is a serious and intensive commitment and should not be entered into lightly; nomination(s) deserve the utmost consideration and should be made with sincerity and respect for the important work that needs to be done.

How can you participate or nominate someone to do so?
In past years student representatives were identified for committees early in the fall term. The timing of this often proved difficult. For the 2008/09 academic year the process will change to allow more time for identifying student representatives. The process for nominating students to serve on committees in the fall will take place this spring. By doing so we hope to do a better job of securing full representation by students, including alternates, on all committees; an added benefit is that this will more closely resemble the process for determining faculty representation on committees.

If you are interested in nominating a fellow student or yourself for a committee seat you may do so by downloading and submitting a Student Committee Representative Nomination Form. Forms are also available in the Academic Affairs and Student Affairs offices. Completed forms should be submitted to the Academic Affairs office.
