TUFTS BOOKSTORE

The bookstore is accessible from both Professors Row and Talbot Ave. The entrance next is next to a stairway that separates the bookstore from the Campus Center. On the first day of class you will receive a syllabus with a list of required books. All of these books will be available at the bookstore. Buying your books early is recommended so that you may have access to the limited number of used copies, which are much cheaper than the new copies. At the bookstore you will also find notebooks, pens, and all the necessary goods to take to class with you. It is worth buying a lined notebook instead of using your art sketchbook; it’ll keep you more organized!

PHOTOCOPIES AT THE LIBRARY

If you are low on cash and do not want to purchase your books, you may read the copies at the Tisch Library and make photocopies to take home with you. Be aware that this is a lot of work and takes a lot of extra time. Plus, due to copyright laws, you may not copy an entire book, only small excerpts. Unless you are really strapped for cash, it is highly recommended that you purchase all of the required books from the bookstore.

There is a photocopying room located on the first floor of Tisch Library, just to the right of the circulation desk. Photocopies are 10 cents each and there is a change-machine located nearby. Students use these photocopiers regularly.

COURSE PACKETS

Most Tufts courses have a ‘reader’ or ‘course packet’ that is required in addition to books. The course packet is typically a compilation of various articles and resources that the professor has hand picked. You may buy Tufts course packets at Gnomon Copy, located at 348 Boston Ave., phone 781-391-6666. It is best to go to Gnomon Copy after your first class and buy your course packet as soon as possible. If Gnomon runs out of copies, new ones may not be available for several weeks, by which time you could be behind on readings.

The easiest way to get to Gnomon Copy (and you must go to this particular Gnomon Copy) is to walk towards Dowling Hall (where the parking garage and campus police are located) and then down the hill to Boston Ave. Turn left, walking away from campus and away from the direction of the T, and continue for roughly three blocks, passing a very small parking lot on your right. Gnomon Copy is a small shop located on your right.
