Awards + Fellowships   

Skowhegan Fellowship
Museum School students are invited to attend the prestigious Skowhegan School of Painting and Sculpture in central Maine. Any currently enrolled Museum School student is eligible for the Gund Fellowship once accepted to the Skowhegan program. Skowhegan is an intensive nine-week summer residency providing a concentrated period of work with the critical assistance of a faculty of resident and visiting artists.

College Art Association's (CAA) regional MFA exhibition
In 2006, Massachusetts College of Art (MassArt) hosted the regional MFA exhibition in conjunction with the CAA Conference. This annual event is a series of media-based exhibitions that include works by MFA students. Invited schools included the Art Institute of Boston, the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Universities of Massachusetts at Amherst and Dartmouth, the University of Connecticut and the University of New Hampshire. Each school selected talented, young artists who participated in a selected category.

After careful consideration, the Museum School selected the following students to participate in 2006's CAA regional MFA exhibition:

    Daniela Rivera (Nominated in Sculpture)
    Jia-Jen Lin (Nominated in Printmaking)
    Karen Schiff (Nominated in Work on Paper)
    Candice Ivy (Nominated in Film/Video)
    Keith Sullivan and Dawit Petros (Nominated in Interactive Work)

The Joan Mitchell Foundation Award in Painting and Sculpture
The SMFA has produced more Joan Mitchell MFA Grant Recipients than any other art school. Each year the Joan Mitchell Foundation awards $15,000 to help master of fine arts graduates further their artistic careers. This prestigious national prize has been received by the following ten Museum School MFA program students: Ahmed Abdalla, Evelina Brozgul, Heather Cox, Allan Doyle, Omer Gagnon, Ridley Howard, Amy Morel, Arlayne Peterson, Ayae Takahashi, and Cullen Washington.

The Montague Travel Grant
This endowed grant is an international travel award designated specifically for SMFA/Tufts Master of Fine Arts candidates to further their studio practice and graduate study through research and investigation. All current full time MFA graduate students are eligible to apply.
