The Midnight Blooming Fund is an endowed scholarship fund started by SMFA faculty member Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons. "Creating a fund that will give underprivileged, talented individuals access to the undergraduate, and graduate programs at The School of the Museum of Fine Arts has been a vision of mine since my first visit to the SMFA. Midnight Blooming is a rare plant; it needs to be tended carefully and constantly. Only then will the plant offer a magnificent bloom to its care giver, revealing its mystery in a choreographic display that lasts for hours. If one is privileged with the gift of the blossom and has the patience to stay through the night, one can witness the unfolding of a creation of unimaginable inner beauty, a gestation of sorts, and a testament to the fragility and ephemeral nature of the creative impulse that propels art. In establishing the Midnight Blooming Fund in 2006, G.A.S.P. continues its founding vision of offering support to those talented, motivated individuals in search of their artistic inspirations. G.A.S.P. is attempting to reach out to those who are in a position to provide support and strengthen our initial gesture in pursuit of building this fund. We are proud to be continuing this endeavor as we enter into the MBF's third year alongside the SMFA's annual Sale. The fund is growing closer to our goal of bringing a new wave of diversity to the walls of the revered institution of the SMFA that will enrich the cultural plateau of the SMFA community as well as the New England community at large." - Maria Magdalena Campos-Pons G.A.S.P. Artist/Founder/Owner Brookline 2008
In conjunction with InsideOut, Ms. Campos-Pons has hand selected more than 20 pieces of work by a diverse range of talented SMFA artists including Rachel Perry Welty, Evelyn Rydz, Alfredo Jaar, Natalie Alper, and Ambreen Butt. As you walk through the Sale, you will notice that some works are marked with a special sticker. This indicates that the proceeds from the sale of these works will be split between the artist and the Midnight Blooming Fund.
G.A.S.P. is located at 362-4 Boylston Street (and Cypress Street) Brookline, MA 02445 617-418-4308 www.g-a-s-p.net galleryinfo@g-a-s-p.net
