Carroll Conquest and Diana Zawil, both MAT in Art Education candidates, have been selected to participate in an upcoming trip to Cuba sponsored by the Tufts University Latino Center. Since 2002, the Latino Center has offered students from all three Tufts campuses the rare opportunity to enter Cuba—with a United States government issued license—to explore various aspects of Cuban culture for educational research purposes.

Conquest and Zawil will focus on art education curriculum research with a special emphasis on contemporary Cuban women artists. Traveling from January 4–15, 2008, they plan to study and interview artists such as Jacqueline and Yamilis Brito, among others. The unique experiences Conquest and Zawil will have during this once-in-a-lifetime trip are sure to have a lasting influence on their future as art educators.
