| Biography |
| Painting and Graduate Program. M.F.A., School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston/Tufts University ('71); B.F.A., School of the Museum of Fine Arts/Tufts University ('69); Art Students League ('63-'64); studied at Clark University ('62-'63). Bergstein's painting contrasts the awesome and the trivial, the high and the low, the manic and the melancholic using sources from Bruegel to The Simpsons. Solo shows: Howard Yezerski Gallery, Boston (Spring '01); Stephan Stux Gallery, NY ('99); Howard Yezerski Gallery, Boston ('99); Galerie Bonnier in Geneva, Switzerland; Zolla Lieberman Gallery, Chicago; and DeCordova Museum, Lincoln, MA. Collected representations: Museum of Fine Arts, Boston; MIT; DeCordova Museum; Rose Museum; Davis Museum at Wellesley College; IBM; and many others. Grants and awards: Four-week residency Liguria Study Foundation; Genoa, Italy (spring '01); regional National Endowment for the Arts Painting Grant ('92); and three Massachusetts Artists Foundation Grants in painting. His work has been reviewed widely in the local press as well as in ARTnews, Art in America, and Artforum. |
