| Studio |
One of the nation’s oldest programs of its kind, the Studio Program is an intensive, all-elective studio art program. |
Motivated students of any age who want to spend concentrated time in the studio and shape their own creative direction, including:
- High school graduates
- College transfers
- College graduates
- Career changers
- Nontraditional students
- Retirees
- Artists

Some Studio graduates go on to graduate study in fine art, others begin their practice as artists, and still other continue to the SMFA’s Fifth Year Certificate Program, and have an opportunity to win a Traveling Scholarship and an exhibition at the MFA. |
| Bachelor of Fine Arts (BFA) |
The Bachelor of Fine Arts combines intense studio experience at SMFA with rigorous study of the liberal arts. You study at the SMFA and Tufts or Northeastern university and earn a degree from Tufts or Northeastern. |
Students interested in acquiring an undergraduate degree in studio art, including:
- High school graduates
- College transfer students

Many BFA graduates pursue advanced study, such as MFA or MAT programs; others launch careers as practicing artists or in creative fields. |
| Bachelor of Fine Arts Plus MAT (BFA Plus) in Art Education |
The BFA Plus Program; focuses on the development of the artist and prepares the artist to teach. You study at the SMFA and Tufts and earn a Tufts degree. |
Students interested in acquiring an undergraduate degree in art education and a teaching degree, including:
- High school graduates
- College transfer students
|
BFA Plus graduates are eligible to teach art in public and private schools
at the elementary, middle, or high school level, without an additional degree. |
| Continuing Education |
Continuing Education offers art classes and workshops in the evenings and on weekends, as well as certificate programs in graphic design or illustration. |
Adults of all experience levels, including:
- Individuals who enjoy being around art
- Individuals who work in an arts-related field
- Individuals considering a career change
- Artists interested in advancing their practice or exploring new media

Many Continuing Education students intensify their study through the Studio Program. Credits earned in Continuing Education may be
applied toward the Studio Program.

| Post-Baccalaureate Certificate |
The Post-Baccalaureate Program offers an intensive year of studio art study and practice, closely advised and supported by SMFA faculty. |
Individuals with some art experience art, including:
- College graduates
- Students preparing to apply to a master’s program
- Career changers
|
Many Post-Baccalaureate students go on to graduate programs in fine arts or continue on to the SMFA’s Studio Program. Others set up their studios for independent practice in the arts. |
| Master of Fine Arts (MFA) |
Both rigorous and highly selective, the Master of Fine Arts Program prepares you for a career as a working artist or a teacher at the college level. Students study at the SMFA and either Tufts or Northeastern university and receive a degree from Tufts or Northeastern. |
- College graduates and artists interested in acquiring a master’s degree in studio art
- College graduates and artists interested in teaching at the college level

MFA graduates go on to teach at the college level or launch careers as working artists. |
| Master of Art in Teaching (MAT) in Art Education |
The Master of Art in Teaching Program prepares the artist to teach in elementary, middle, and high schools with a critical focus on both contemporary visual culture and traditional arts. Students study at the SMFA and Tufts and receive a Tufts degree. |
College graduates and artists interested in acquiring a master’s degree in teaching art education at the elementary, middle, or high school level. |
MAT in Art Education graduates teach art in public and private schools at the elementary, middle, or high school level. |
