Combined-Degree Program

The Combined-Degree Program is an ideal option for students who are equally passionate about academics and artmaking. As a Combined-Degree student, you’ll pursue your artistic vision while exploring an academic field of your choice. Students in this program are enrolled at both the Museum School and Tufts University and graduate with both an academic degree (the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science) and a fine arts degree (the Bachelor of Fine Arts) from Tufts.

In this rigorous dual-degree program, you will complete a minimum of 24 academic courses, most of which you’ll take at Tufts, while also attending studio art classes at the Museum School. You will fulfill the foundation and distribution requirements of the BA or BS degree, which include:

·          Two courses in English writing
·          Two in the humanities
·          Two in the social sciences
·          Two in math
·          Two in natural science
·          Six in language and culture
·          One in world civilizations
·           Five in art history

You will also take 10 to 12 courses in your major academic concentration. In addition, you will complete five semesters of fulltime studio courses for 84 studio art credits. Some courses may count for both degrees. Students apply simultaneously to both SMFA and Tufts.
