Information for MAT Students

The policies, rules, and regulations of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences at Tufts guide program administrative procedures. You will be officially enrolled as a Tufts student and pay tuition directly to Tufts. The Registrar will maintain your official records.

Department-based Scholarships
Department-based scholarships may be available and should be applied for by completing the Financial Aid form in the Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Sciences application.

Academic Standing
In order to remain eligible to continue in a degree program and/or receive various types of financial assistance including federal aid, a graduate student must maintain good academic standing and be making adequate progress toward the degree. The Executive Committee of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences must grant exceptions to the requirements for good academic standing upon recommendation from the appropriate department or departmental committee. Once removed from good academic standing, by recommendation of the department, a student may regain good standing within the next semester or year by meeting both the requirements failed earlier and those that would normally have been met by that time. Failure to regain good academic standing results in dismissal from the graduate school. Full guidelines for academic standing may be obtained from the Tufts Graduate School of Arts and Sciences.

Transfer of Credit
Graduate School’s Executive Committee must approve all transfer credit. Studio course transfers from other institutions are not accepted.

Waiver of Program Components
It is possible that candidates may have completed a course(s) that meets Initial Teacher Licensure requirements prior to their matriculation at Tufts, but that may not be used to satisfy degree requirements. In such cases, the candidate may apply to Tufts for a waiver for approval of the course(s) for licensure purposes, and may complete a substitute course(s) for degree credit. This waiver of content for licensure should not be confused with transfer of credit for completion of the degree.
