During a 12-month program (one summer and one academic year), you will complete 44 SMFA credits, which translate into 10–12 credits on the Tufts transcript. The MAT in Art Education program is designed for students to take advantage of the resources at both institutions, with Education courses offered at Tufts and Studio Art and Art Education courses offered at the SMFA. Traditionally, MAT Art Education students enroll in three courses during the summer immediately following spring admission into the program. The remainder of the coursework is taught in the fall and spring semesters at the SMFA. The typical path of study is listed below.

sequence of course work for the MAT degree and eligibility for Initial Teacher
Licensure in Massachusetts is completed. The Commonwealth of Massachusetts
requires a passing grade of 70 or higher is on the MTEL to apply for initial
teacher licensure.
