W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library

You’ll find plenty of library support for your work at the SMFA. On campus is the W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library, designed to aid your research with 20,000 volumes. The Visual Resources Library houses a collection of more than 95,000 slides and offers the Digital Compass, a new online resource that gives students access to many useful and exciting image databases. Degree students and students enrolled in classes through the ProArts Consortium also have access to the Tufts University library and the libraries of ProArts member institutions.

W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library

The W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library in the Museum School is the circulating branch of the William Morris Hunt Memorial Library, the main library of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. The school library collection focuses on 20th century and contemporary art with artists’ monographs, art history books, periodicals, video, CDs, and original artists’ books. New this year, the Services for Faculty page helps instructors prepare library materials in advance for the coming semester.

In addition to the print materials in the Main Library, students have access to an array of electronic resources and databases such as the ARTbibliographies Modern, Grove Dictionary of Art, Art Index, and the Design and Applied Arts Index. The library is a member of the Fenway Libraries FLO along with eight other local colleges, giving students access to an expanded collection of over 909,000 books and other materials.
