As an SMFA alumnus, you're part of a unique, dynamic network.

We encourage you to take full advantage of our programs to meet new friends, keep in touch with classmates, and maintain your connection to SMFA. If you have suggestions for alumni events in your area or other ideas, please let us know.

There are many opportunities to be involved in the SMFA community, whether you are looking for social events, networking, or career advice. Here are a few ways to start:

Many artists appreciate the burst of inspiration that accompanies connecting with other artists. If you are willing to help build an alumni network in your city or if you just want to keep in touch with the School to let us know what you're doing, please email alumni@smfa.edu or call 617-369-3959.

Join the alumni committee, which meets throughout the year. To join, email the Alumni Office.

Project Funding

To showcase and fund the creative wealth of SMFA artists, we've teamed up with Kickstarter to produce a high-visibility curated page. SMFA alumni who post projects and obtain approval from Kickstarter may request to be added to SMFA's page. Since the launch of our Kickstarter page in 2012, 93% of curated campaigns reached or exceeded their pledge goals. Contact ctutter@smfa.edu with a request to be added to the page.

Alumni Events

Many artists appreciate the burst of inspiration that accompanies connecting with other artists and we hope you will take full advantage of the programs and events that we organize. We've been in New York City, Chicago, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seoul, Tokyo and of course, Boston. Look for us in Houston this fall.

Build an Alumni Network

We'll help you develop a local SMFA Facebook page to get started in your city.

Get a Library Card

Alumni are encouraged to use the W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library at SMFA. Privileges include borrowing from the general collection, in-library access to our electronic resources, and viewings of our collections of artists' books and zines (by appointment). Apply for a Traveling Fellowship

Support for exploration and research are critical in an artist's career. SMFA has a strong history of providing those opportunities, none more important or enduring than the SMFA Traveling Fellows program. Since 1899, this program has awarded funds to select artists for post-graduate work and travel. Over the years these awards have recognized the most innovative, ambitious work, including notable alumni Nan Goldin, Mike and Doug Starn, Ellen Gallagher, Omer Fast, and Rachel Perry Welty. See Evelyn Rydz's Traveling Fellowship exhibition, "Forever Yours," on view now through September 14, 2014 in the MFA's Eunice and Julian Cohen Galleria. Graduates of the BFA, MFA, and Diploma programs are eligible for this competition.

If You Miss the Studio Classroom, Come Back

SMFA Diploma and degree graduates receive a 25% tuition discount off the cost of credit-section Continuing Education courses.

Help Us Brag About You

Send us your news and share your website. We'll post your accomplishments on www.smfa.edu and might even interview you for our blog.

As you may know from personal experience, an SMFA education has no parallel. Contributions to the SMFA Fund help continue the tradition of providing inexperienced and advanced artists of diverse ages with an experience that is interdisciplinary, self-directed, and always evolving. Gifts from alumni, parents, and friends–no matter the size–are essential to continuing the truly unique SMFA education.
