Kurt Kauper uses painterly realism to underline the artificiality of the images he constructs. From his gorgeously clothed, fictional Divas - women who are fictions and exist only within the work, to his images of naked Cary Grant lounging around a beach house, to his heroic images of nude hockey players, Kauper's work toys with our perceptions of reality. By meticulously heightening painting's realism, Kauper's work weirdly and delightfully veers unexpectedly into surrealism. Kurt lives and works in New York.
