Opening to Boston audiences this winter during the one year anniversary of the first mass protests in Tahrir Square, "Histories of Now: Six Artists from Cairo" brings together work by some of the most inspiring and influential video and new media artists working in Egypt today, including a multi-channel video installation by the late Ahmed Basiony featured in the Egyptian Pavilion of the 54th Venice Biennale.

"!" is a student run performance group that meets without faculty instruction every Friday evening in the performance room. This is a place to show or engage in dialogue about personal work or practices and a chance to discuss ideas. "!" also serves as a playground for larger artistic collaboration and as a forum for discussing emerging issues, carrying out new ideas, and initializing experimentation within the performative medium. The goals of this group are to bridge a gap between students whom otherwise may be separated by class room structures, to provide artistic support to students when needed, and to strengthen the student community "!"

Sci-Fi Club is about watching awesome movies and television and reading awesome books and comics all about science fiction. It's also about creating a communal discussion and thought process and how both the world and science-fiction are merging, and how those dangers, that were just dreams long, long ago in a galaxy far, far away are becoming a reality today.

Jamie McMurry (b. 1971) has been an active artist, organizer and educator in the fields of performance, installation, video and conceptual art for more than 15 years. He has exhibited and taught extensively at various institutions and underground spaces all over the world. He is from Yakima, Washington and currently resides in Los Angeles.

Screening of Tahani Rached's film These Girls (El-Banate Dol)

This documentary follows a band of teenage girls living on the streets of Cairo. Already at a disadvantage as
impoverished and abused girls in a Muslim society, they encounter rape, drug addiction, prostitution, pregnancy
and motherhood on the streets. While the girls' troubles are not downplayed, neither are their courage, playfulness
and vibrant camaraderie.

SMFA B.A.G. Gallery

"Slivers" showcases three students, each with a primary focus in fiber-based arts. The opportunity to exhibit this range of works on a large scale allows work in fibers at SMFA to be shown in a way that might not otherwise be represented in such a scope, showcasing only a portion of work being produced at the School in such mediums. Conceptually, the work is linked by a common thread—constructing identity by means of bodily extension, manifested as external objects, handmade and consumer products. These act to inform a concept of the self through memory, adornment and the telling of a story

The Library Sounds series kicks off with Jed Speare who is, among other things, a sound artist with an interest in field recordings and musique concrete. Jed acts as artistic director of Mobius Artists Space which has been a home to sound and performance artists in Boston for the past 35 years.
