Discounts
- SMFA Alumni Discount: Museum School alumni are eligible to receive a 25% tuition discount off the cost of credit section courses. Alumni must be a diploma or degree graduate of the School.
- Medici Society Members, MFA members and Senior Citizens Discount: Members of the Museum School's Medici Society, MFA members and senior citizens (62 or older) are eligible for a $50 discount on 2- and 4-credit courses. Please check the appropriate box on the registration form. MFA members must include their membership card number.
- High School Students Discount: Junior and senior high school students are eligible for a 25% tuition discount on all courses taken for credit.
- Early Bird Discount: CE students who register by May 6, 2013 for summer courses will receive a $25 discount off of credit section courses.
- Discounts on Computer Products: Continuing Education students may purchase computer products for personal and/or educational use at special pricing through Apple's online Education Store.
Refunds and Withdrawals
Tuition refunds are made only when a Continuing Education course drop form is received by the Registrar's Office. The date that such notice is received will be the effective date of withdrawal.
A 100% refund of tuition is given when written notice of withdrawal is received by the Office of the Registrar as indicated below:
For summer session:
- One-week intensives and non-credit workshops: at least one week prior to the second class meeting
- Courses that run longer than one week: prior to the first class meeting
For spring and fall semesters:
- 2- and 4-credit courses: prior to the second class meeting
- Non-credit workshops and one-week intensives: at least one week prior to the first class meeting
After the deadlines, no refund will be given. The general fee is not refundable. If you fax a withdrawal notice, please call the Registrar's Office at 617-369-3621 to confirm its receipt.
Course Cancellations and Changes
The School reserves the right to cancel any course that does not have the minimum enrollment. A full refund of tuition and fees will be made. The School also reserves the right to make changes in course scheduling, faculty and course content.
Credit, Grades and Hours of Instruction
Credit is awarded on the basis of two credits for every 45 contact hours of instruction. Grading is on a pass/fail basis. If you require a letter grade in order to transfer credit to another institution, or for professional development purposes, please indicate this wish by checking the appropriate place on the application, or by filling out a request for letter grade form before the 3rd class meeting. Credit and grades cannot be received for courses taken as non-credit, or for workshops.
Supply Lists
Some instructors will post supply lists for courses on mySMFA before the start of the course for students to gather materials beforehand. For those courses that do not include published supply lists, instructors will discuss materials on the first class meeting.

Professional Development Points for K12 Teachers
Students who successfully complete courses offered at the Museum School are eligible to receive Professional Development Points (PDPs), required by the State of Massachusetts for the re-certification of Massachusetts educators. For more information about obtaining PDPs, please contact the Continuing Education Office.
Access to Facilities
During the summer session, the Museum School is open to CE students:
Monday through Thursday 8 am11 pm
Friday 8 am6 pm
The building is not accessible on weekends.
During the fall semester, the Museum School is open to CE students:
Monday through Friday 6 pm12 am
Saturdays and Sundays 8 am12 am
Hours in areas that require monitors (photography darkroom, printmaking studio, metals, etc.) may differ and will be posted. It is the responsibility of the students to adhere to the School's verbal and/or written health and safety instructions and guidelines while on campus.
Library Resources for CE Students
As a member of the SMFA community, CE students may access the library's collections and resources with a student ID card validated each semester by the Continuing Education office.
Setting up a Library account will enable you to check out books at all other FLO (Fenway Libraries Online) libraries, including Massachusetts College of Art and Design, Wentworth Institute, Lesley/Art Institute of Boston, Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences, the New England Conservatory and Emerson, Emmanuel and Wheelock colleges. ID Cards
ID cards are issued and validated during check-in at the Continuing Education Office at the start of classes. A valid SMFA ID is required for access to all Museum School facilities. If you have an ID from a previous semester, it can be validated with the current semester sticker. Your ID entitles you to free admission to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, and the Institute of Contemporary Art, Boston. Your ID also entitles you to discounts at the Museum Shop and parking facilities, as well as discounts at select art supply stores, museums and theaters.
Health and Safety
It is the responsibility of all students, when they are on School property, to adhere to the School's verbal or written health and safety instructions and guidelines.
Smoke-Free School Policy
The Museum School is a smoke-free environment.
