2015 Student Speaker Commencement Nominations
Each year, a student speaker is chosen to give brief remarks of roughly three minutes at the School's commencement ceremony in May. The student speaker must exhibit character, leadership, and commitment to his or her practice, and be a member of the graduating class.
If you know of a student who you feel meets these criteria and is deserving of this honor, please nominate them as this year's commencement student speaker. All nominations received from faculty, staff, and students will be submitted to a committee for the selection process. The committee will then contact the nominated individuals.
*Please note that graduating students may nominate themselves.
Nomination forms can be picked up at the Student Affairs Office starting on Monday, January 26, 2015. Please deliver your nomination form to the Student Affairs Office by Friday, February 27, 2015, by 5:00 pm.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many tickets does each degree candidate get?
The SMFA ceremony is a ticketed event, and space is extremely limited. As of today, each graduate is guaranteed 2 tickets for family/friends and 1 ticket for him/herself. Please check back for updates as there is a potential that more tickets per graduate will become available.
If you do NOT plan to attend the SMFA commencement ceremony, please email Student Affairs (email@example.com) to forfeit your tickets, and arrange to have your diploma mailed to you.
Where is commencement?
The commencement ceremony takes place in the Museum of Fine Arts' beautiful Shapiro Courtyard. Guests and graduates should enter through the Museum's State Street Corporation Fenway Entrance. The museum is located at 465 Huntington Ave, Boston, MA 02115. Click for Directions »
What should I wear to commencement?
The SMFA commencement ceremony dress code does not include caps and gowns, but degree candidates are encouraged to dress up for the occasion.
If you plan to attend the Tufts ceremony Sunday morning, you should be aware that participating students wear caps and gowns. SMFA students are not required to wear caps and gowns, but if you wish to do so, you may purchase one through the Tufts University Bookstore website, or by calling the bookstore at 617-627-3468. Bachelor's gown, cap, tassel, and announcement package cost roughly $60. Master's gown, cap, and tassel cost roughly $50. Orders must be placed by March 2015.
How many students typically graduate?
About 220 students graduated from SMFA in May 2014 across all five SMFA programs (BFA, DIP, PB, MFA, and MAT). Not everyone participates in the ceremony, but an attendance of about 800 people to the SMFA commencement ceremony is normal.
Do children need tickets to the SMFA commencement ceremony?
All guests over the age of three must have a ticket to the ceremony and will be required to show it to enter the Museum.
How do I know if I have enough credits to graduate?
