Nancy Bauer is dean of the School of Museum of Fine Arts at Tufts, Dean of Academic Affairs for Arts and Sciences, and Professor of Philosophy.
As dean of the SMFA at Tufts, Bauer oversees the leadership and administration of the school as well as the university’s collaborations with the Museum of Fine Arts. Her vision is guided by the belief that the fine arts are valuable unto themselves, and she encourages collaborations between and among academic and studio areas across the university.
Dean Bauer joined the Tufts faculty in 1998 after completing her doctorate in philosophy at Harvard University, from which she also holds a bachelor of arts in social studies and a master of theological studies. A celebrated professor, Bauer has received numerous teaching awards from both students and peers, including the student senate Professor of the Year award, the Leibner Award for Excellence in Teaching and Advising, and the Teaching with Technology award.
