Jonathan Calm was born in Brooklyn, New York. He received his B.F.A. in 1997 from Montclair State University and his M.F.A. from Columbia University in 2000. Calm's work has been widely exhibited at galleries and museums throughout the United States and Europe, including the Museum of Modern Art, Tate Britain, the Museo De Arte Reina Sofia, the Studio Museum in Harlem, the Jersey City Museum, the Wadsworth Athenaeum Museum of Art and most recently the Renaissance Society in Chicago. Calm is a 2008-2009 Art Matters grant recipient examining social housing as part of a larger investigation into the origins of urban public housing and its evolution. His work has garnered critical attention in numerous publications including Art in America, The New York Times, Artforum and the Village Voice along with appearing in numerous exhibition catalogues. He currently lives and works in New York City.
