SMFA is proud to announce our 17th annual Medal Award recipient: artist and alumna, Lalla Essaydi. Raised in Morocco, Essaydi often combines Islamic calligraphy with representations of the female body in her art, addressing the complex reality of Arab female identity from the unique perspective of personal experience. We will celebrate Essaydi at a gala benefit on May 22, which will raise crucial funds for scholarships and educational opportunities to benefit SMFA students.
