The film Sense of Place is the first chapter to a larger work focused on New Town, North Dakota. This small prairie town is one of many "Boom Towns" in the region struggling to accommodate the sudden increase in traffic and population associated with the oil boom. The film follows the history of the town from the perspective of some of its longest standing residents comparing earlier transitional moments to the growing pains at hand.

K.Tyler approaches her concepts from many different angles simultaneously working in photo, film, print and bookmaking. Personal histories composed of second hand knowledge have often been the impetus behind her artworks, which explore memory and sequence as they unravel in haunting cycles. In 2008 she received her BFA in Photography from California College of the Arts, and she is presently enrolled at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston pursuing an MFA. Tyler exhibited her thesis work at the Tufts University Art Gallery @ Aidekman Arts Center, November 29–December 16, 2012.
