2008: Tara Hill Bookmark and Share

Tara Hill (Montague Fund) traveled to the Krinjing village, at the base of Mt. Merapi in Java, Indonesia to participate in the "Global Warming Global Warning" performance festival organized by the Indonesian Performance Klub.

While there, she performed with a group of artists in response to problems resulting from commercial sand digging in the area. Due to the removal of sand in the area, water is no longer draining from the springs to the rice paddies, creating a local food shortage and increasing prices. For this piece, participating artists climbed from the bottom of a gully in Krinjing village up to the road, while trying to carry sand and rice in sifters. Once at the top, the group tried to sift their sand and rice, some also sang, but the mixture did not separate. More energy was put into the work than the result, and everything ended up all over the road. The rice was picked up to be cleaned and used after the performance.
