Simonds recently completed a new temporary public art installation commissioned by the City of Cambridge in 2011. Beacon of Color was commissioned by the City of Cambridge to improve this area at the corner of First and Spring Streets, which was damaged by a fire in 2008. Simonds designed Beacon of Color to add visual vibrancy and interest to this busy corner, using acrylic paint on durable board rather than her customary gouache on paper. The paintings bring over 5,000 square feet of rhythm, color and shape to the once dreary façade.
