
The College Art Association (CAA) promotes the visual arts and their understanding through committed practice and intellectual engagement. CAA's
101st Annual Conference will take place February 1316, 2013 in New York City. Over 6,000 artists, art historians, students, educators, critics, curators, collectors, librarians, and gallerists will gather four days of presentations and panel discussions exploring the study, practice, and history of art and visual culture.
SMFA artists will have a notable presence at this year's conference.
Ellsworth Kelly (Dip '48), will be the recipient of the CAA Distinguished Artist Award for Lifetime Achievement and will be honored at a special awards ceremony on February 13. Three SMFA alumni are presenting at CAA 2013 sessions:

Since 2005, the Services to Artists Committee has presented a roster of innovative video programming in conjunction with ARTspace at the annual conference. The selections are made by renowned artists, professors and curators specializing in new media; they are shown throughout the conference, featuring different programs each day.
"TRANSMEDIATION" is a curatorial exchange and video art roundabout between 50 students from 10 East Coast colleges, curated by Micol Hebron and Cindy Smith. Participants include SMFA, Hunter, RISD, MIT, Yale, Columbia, SVA, NYU, University of Connecticut and Pratt. A selection of videos from each school, featuring work in video art, animation, design and digital media, will play on an ongoing loop each day of the conference.
