"Secret Acts," features four artists who turn private acts into public narrative, examining reality/fiction, ritual/restitution and past/present. Daniel Embree is a multi-media artist from suburban Chicago. He graduated with a BFA in Painting and Drawing from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah in 2009. He currently lives in West Newton, Massachusetts with his husband.
Embree's recent work involves text, images and performance art. He appropriates gestures from Mormon rituals and examines gay issues within Mormonism, including marginalization, exclusion and paradox. Though he is currently exiled from his childhood faith, he seeks to recreate and share the uplifting, spiritual experiences of his heritage through art.
