Julia Csekö MFA Thesis Show "Aftermath"
April 5–27, 2013
Reception: April 5
Laconia Lofts Gallery, 433 Harrison Avenue, Boston, MA 02118

Julia Csekö's Hybrid series of sculptures are interplays between the micro/macro politics in contemporary life—from social inequalities and military squanders to the most basic of human needs. By transforming social symbols and objects, such as miliray fatigues, into doll-size proportions, she aims to make complex issues a little less overpowering. The visual downsizing and softening of her sculptures invites viewers to engage with tough issues without the "life-size" or "bigger than life" intimidation factor and to question the value that some social symbols take up in our lives.
