The ghosts of memory, family history and community are explored through abstractions of tone, form and space. What occurs throughout is a process of assembling and disassembling, resulting in compositions that tensely cohere, yet prone to fragment. The works are riddled with the absurd and poignant conditions determined by histories of geography, migration, sacrifice, survival and painting.
Maia Lynch was born in Philadelphia, PA. She received her BA in Anthropology from Barnard College, Columbia University and is currently in the final year of her MFA at the School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
