As Tupac unintentionally appropriated Zhuangzi in saying "Reality is wrong. Dreams are for real."
Timothy Mearini produces immersive, densely composited 3D environments using custom and altered elements appropriated from advertisements, cartoons and cinema using 3D models, collaged and hand drawn animation. Frames are often loaded with signifiers with no direction while symbols are emptied of their pathos. The terrain becomes a
jouissance by being over synthesized and in return the cultural symbolic order becomes desensitized.
The dystopian fantascapes are mechanical abstractions that appear at once seductively organic and totally digital. Mearini has developed painterly techniques for processing video within a variety of animation software.
Mearini will also screen excerpts from
oO0(0)0Oo and
oo0\V/0oo in
"SMFA Graduate Thesis Film & Video Exhibition," May 16+17 at the MFA's Remis Auditorium.
