Tim McCool MFA Thesis Show "These Things Take Time"
Carroll and Sons Gallery, 450 Harrison Ave, Boston
May 3–June 1, 2013
First Friday: May 3
Reception: May 30, 5:30–7:30 pm

These Things Take Time is a collection of stream of consciousness drawings. Working with markers and whatever paper is at hand, Timothy McCool creates a visual monologue of his thoughts. Pulling from various sources such as French critical theory, Twitter, the Coen Brothers, Netflix, Michel Gondry, the Wikipedia article about Slim Jims, Werner Herzog's voice and diction, Tumblr, dog parks, the Amélie soundtrack, "My Best Friend's Wedding," Lana Del Rey, mysterious hooded figures, Ed Ruscha, bibliographies, ABBA, Charles Dickens, jury duty, Roland Barthes, the Gorillaz, multinational soybean conglomerates and The Smiths, McCool recreates the experience of what it's like to live in a world where there's too much information and no one knows exactly what to do with all of it.

A native of Pittsburgh, McCool received his B.A. from Boston College in Studio Art and Art History. While studying at SMFA, he has exhibited his work in Boston, New York and other cities, and has written about art for various publications internationally.
