Tufts-SMFA Art Education Festival, April 22–26 Work by PK-12 school students produced under the guidance of their student teachers from the Tufts-SMFA Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) Art Education program will be exhibited at the SMFA Mission Hill Building April 22–26, 2013. Other events will include gallery talks throughout the festival and a reception on April 26, 2013, from 4–6:30 pm honoring the 2012–2013 MAT cohort of student teachers, cooperating art teachers, university supervisors and faculty members. The Art Education Festival is free and open to the public. All faculty, staff, students, families, neighbors and community members of SMFA, Tufts and partner PK-12 schools are encouraged to attend.

The Art Education Festival aims to display the results of MAT students' work as artists and teachers in the setting of their scholarly and art making community and to advance the discourse in art education about what it means to be an emerging art teacher in the context of: a multicultural, diverse society and art-world; Postmodernism's influence on art making; the role of visual culture in the life of PK-12 art students; and the daily realities of developing, designing, implementing and evaluating curriculum in the PK-12 public school classroom.
