Kate Gilbert MFA Thesis Show "Hide:Seek"
Carroll and Sons, 450 Harrison Ave. Boston
May 28–June 1, 2013
Reception: May 30, 5:30–7:30 pm

Some fears are founded, others are not. "Hide:Seek" offers witness to our conflicting desires for both safety and personal growth in the face of uncertainty. Presented as a pop-up retail environment, "Hide:Seek" combines clothing, sculpture and media to portray the artist's perspective on self-actualization as a non-hierarchical journey of being alone together.

Kate Gilbert, an artist and creative strategist, has worked in Boston for over 15 years elevating the role that the arts, and artists, play in transforming our cities, our relationships and ourselves. Her sculpture explores the relational hierarchies of objects and people. It employs humor, simulation and meditative observation to question objects of comfort, the retail systems they operate in, our consumptive behaviors and our collective fears. It then suggests alternatives.
