MFA Thesis Show "I Have a Terrible Memory"

I Have A Terrible Memory is a group of collected photographs of personal significance where parts of the images are obscured by drawings of black drapery. The content of the photographs is less important to the body of work than the act of obscuring; the memory that the images conjure is merely the point of origin for this project. Milder is interested in representing a gap without a hole, exploring ideas of simultaneous presence and absence. These memories are not truly gone, only covered up.

Milder makes artwork about nightlife, popular culture, and politics. Her given name is Brianne, which means strong. Milder is from Boston and received her BA from Hampshire College in Western Massachusetts.

Milder also screened her film Middlesex Lounge in the "SMFA Graduate Thesis Film & Video Exhibition", which was on view at the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston May 16+17, 2013.
