Fritz Buehner Named Dean of Faculty Bookmark and Share   

Fritz Buehner Named Dean of Faculty Dean Deborah Dluhy is pleased to announce that Fritz Buehner has been selected to serve as the next Dean of Faculty.

An alumnus of the SMFA Diploma (1965) and Fifth Year (1966) programs and a Traveling Scholarship Award recipient (1977), Fritz brings a deep knowledge of the SMFA and the field of contemporary art. Fritz has been a member of the faculty since 1974. He has served as a studio instructor in graduate and undergraduate studies, as a lecturer in Visual and Critical Studies, instructor in the Core Seminar and co-director of Senior Projects during 2006 and 2007. His committee service has included Curriculum, Graduate Admissions, Faculty Affairs and the former Personnel and Curriculum Committee. He was twice elected as the Faculty Representative to the Senior Staff (1999–2001 and 2003–2006) contributing actively to the planning initiatives and work with the Museum of Fine Arts and Board of Governors. In 2004 he received the Russell T. Smith Award for his overall contributions to the School and in 2000 he was the recipient of the Excellence in Teaching Award.

Fritz has maintained an active art practice, with three shows in 2009 in addition to a roster of annual solo and group exhibitions extending back thirty years. He also had residencies at the MacDowell Colony in 2005, Yaddo in 2003, among a longer list of awards and opportunities.

The SMFA community welcomes Fritz Buehner as Dean of Faculty, effective July 2010.
