Whether she is meticulously recreating a scene from art history, retelling a myth from the ancient world or reflecting on failed utopias and the passage of time, Eve Sussman's work reinterprets familiar images or stories through video, film and installation.
Working in collaboration with the Rufus Corporation, a multi-disciplinary collective of artists, Sussman's lushly filmed and elaborately constructed projects, such as 89 Seconds at Alcazar, The Rape of the Sabine Women and White on White have been widely exhibited in venues such the American Academy, Rome; the Istanbul Biennial, the Whitney Biennial; the Museum Picasso, Barcelona, the Union Gallery, London; St. Johannes Evangelist-Kirche, Berlin and The Reina Sofia, Madrid.
Sussman is the recipient of numerous grants and fellowships, including the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Grant, the Jerome Foundation Grant, and the J F Costopoulos Foundation Grant among others.
