SMFA/Tufts Art Education Festival 2011, May 2–6 The 2011 Art Education Festival, May 2–6, exhibits the art work of PK-12 public school students created under the guidance of MAT students during their full-time student teaching internships in the Tufts/SMFA Art Education program. Join us for the opening reception on May 4, 4–7 pm.

The festival showcases the results generated by these artist-teachers within academic and art-making communities; it also aims to advance the discourse about art education, focusing on what it means to be an emerging art teacher in the context of:

-our multicultural society and art worlds
-Postmodernism's influence on art making
-the role of visual culture in the life of PK-12 art students
-the daily realities of developing, designing, implementing and evaluating curriculum in the PK-12 public school classroom

Gallery talk presentations by student teaching interns are scheduled every 25 minutes on May 2–4 from 9 am–2 pm. The Art Education Festival is free and open to the public. All faculty, staff, students, families and community members of SMFA, Tufts and our partner PK-12 schools are welcome to attend.
