SMFA is one of only three art schools in the United States affiliated with a major museum. Located right next door, the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston (MFA), is one of the most comprehensive art museums in the world, with a collection encompassing nearly 450,000 works of art, including work from prominent SMFA alumni and faculty.
Contemporary artists often cite inspiration from old masters and ancient art, and as an SMFA student you have easy (and free) access to the Museum's collections and exhibitions, as well as the Morse Study Room where works on paper not currently on view can be examined up close.
In addition to invitations to concerts, films and special events, as an SMFA student you will also have access to the Museum's curatorial and conservation staff and opportunities to intern or assist with installations. Internationally acclaimed artists visiting the MFA frequently make exclusive trips to the Museum School campus to meet, lecture and work with SMFA students.
