SMFA Travelling Fellow Daniela Rivera (MFA '06) will present work related to her 2015 travel to Chuquicamata, one of the largest copper mines in Chile (and on earth).

Exhibiting performance work through documentation, ephemera, live events, and interactive objects, SMFA at Tufts students Sarah Goldsmith, Sarah Jenkins, Jacob Schaub, and Graham Yeager will present socially informed performances in collaboration with the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston. 2017 SMFA Medal Award Honoring James Turrell
MUSEUM OF FINE ARTS, SHAPIRO FAMILY COURTYARD
The SMFA Medal award is awarded annually to individuals who have made a significant and lasting impact on the art world.  The gala raises vital funds for scholarships and educational opportunities for SMFA students.  Since its inaugural presentation in 1996, the SMFA Medal has paid tribute to some of the most noteworthy artists and influential art patrons of our time.

Standing Wavesis a monthly music, sound, and artists talk series with a concentration on one artist in the performance of and presentation about their work. The combination of performance and discussion allows for the integrity and intention of the artist and their work to be aligned and revealed.

Beckwith Lecture: Alaina Claire Feldman

Alaina Claire Feldman is a curator and Director of Exhibitions at Independent Curators International (ICI). Established in 1978 by Leo and Betty Beckwith, the Beckwith Lecture features curators and cultural thinkers of national and international stature. Feldman will speak about her experience producing The Ocean After Nature, the SMFA Spring 2017 Invitational Show.

Alejandro Gonzalez & Aynel David Guerra
ANDERSON AUDITORIUM
Together, the artists will initiate an expanded conversation about local and global questions of justice by examining LGBT issues in Cuba as well as teen subcultures through the medium of photography. Alejandro Gonzalez is a Cuban-based photographer born in Havana in 1974; Aynel David Guerra is a lawyer and an independent curator based in Boston.

PRINCESS NOKIA
Princess Nokia is an Afro-Nuyorican independent sound artist based in New York. Her work examines the multi-dimensional aspects of her background, including issues of genealogy, diaspora, power, and the boundaries of musical styles and histories.

Ezra Wube is a mixed media artist who lives and works in Brooklyn, New York. Through autobiography his work references the notion of past and present, the constant changing of place, and the dialogical tension between "here" and "there".
