Reporting to the deputy director and dean of the School
and supervising the press coordinator and Web administrator, the director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for
creating and implementing marketing communications strategies for the Museum
School to promote enrollment, fundraising, exhibitions, and public
programs.
ESSENTIAL
FUNCTIONS:
Develop and execute a comprehensive multi-year
communications plan to achieve Museum School marketing communications objectives
utilizing publications, advertising, public relations, and the Web
site.
Write and edit all
publications as well as material for the dean of the School’s reports to the
MFA, trustees, and governors, the Web site, and other materials as
needed.
Work closely with
departments of the School while directing and implementing concept, design,
production, and printing of all marketing communications – more than 50 projects
each year.
Oversee the collection of
student, faculty, and alumni imagery for promotional uses.
Hire and manage
photographers for School and event photography.
Oversee the Web site and
public relations efforts: supervise and collaborate with the press coordinator
and web administrator to maximize efficiency and effectiveness of
both.
Maintain a consistent
institutional image and identity in all marketing communications including
promotional materials, Web site, advertising, etc.
Formulate and manage budgets
of approximately $800,000. Monitor
expenditures against budget and provide ad-hoc updates to Senior Staff.
Oversee the collection and
analysis of primary and secondary market research data and adjust strategies
accordingly.
Plan and place national,
regional, and local advertising.
Manage
consultants (designers,
writers) and relationships with media outlets to ensure that budgets, deadlines,
and quality standards are maintained.
In
coordination with MFA Purchasing, negotiate contract terms and provide regular
evaluations of vendor performance.
Provide Senior Staff with
benchmarks for key communications operations (marketing, public relations, and
web) against internal goals and relative to peer
institutions.
Perform other related duties
as required or directed.
