Transfer Students

The SMFA welcomes transfer students to our bachelor's degree and Diploma programs. In your application, we’re looking for a strong portfolio, as well as other indicators that you’re a good match for the School. These include your previous schooling and the quality and content of the essays that are part of your application.

Here’s how to apply:

  • Check our deadlines. If you submit your application after the priority deadline for your program, your application will be reviewed on a rolling basis. Please note that the five-year Combined-Degree Program does not offer rolling admission.
  • Submit the Application for Admission with the $65 application fee and one essay (or a personal statement). You can download the application (PDF) or request a paper application.
  • Arrange for your final official high school transcript or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) to be sent to the Admissions Office.
  • Arrange for your official college transcript(s) to be sent to the Admissions Office.
  • Submit a portfolio for review.
  • SAT, ACT, and/or AP scores are optional for transfer students. Have them sent  directly to the Admissions Office from the College Board. Our SAT code is 3794; our ACT code is 3794. (Not necessary for Diploma applicants.)
  • Submit two letters of recommendation.
  • Submit a statement of purpose describing why you want to become an art teacher (BFA in Art Education only).
  • Combined-Degree applicants only: Submit a separate application to Tufts. To obtain a Tufts application, visit www.tufts.edu.
  • Explore financial aid and scholarships.
