Graduate Degree Programs

Graduate degree programs at the SMFA give students unprecedented freedom to create art and to grow as artists and teachers. Equally rigorous and each with a different emphasis, both the Master of Fine Arts and the Master of Arts in Teaching in Art Education programs offer remarkable freedom to pursue interdisciplinary work, or to focus in a single medium.

Both programs combine the artistic challenge of the SMFA’s studio programs with the academic rigor of Tufts University. You’ll be enrolled at SMFA and Tufts, and you’ll earn your degree from Tufts. In academic classes and in the studio, you’ll advance your knowledge, your theory, and your practice.

New this year, the SMFA is pleased to offer a Master of Fine Arts in Studio Art Program in partnership with Northeastern University. Click here to learn more about this program. Please note: There are a limited number of places available in the new SMFA/Northeastern joint degree program. If you are interested in studying at the SMFA, we encourage you to apply to both the Northeastern and Tufts joint degree programs.
