Bartlett and Montague Travel Grants
These endowed awards are designated specifically for Master of Fine Arts graduate students for international and national travel that will aid these students in their studio practice and graduate study. All current full time MFA graduate students are eligible to apply.

Janine Biunno

Janine Biunno traveled to Las Vegas to photograph current and used city signage to in relation to that city’s architecture.

Sara Jones traveled to Memphis, TN to document in film and digital photography structures that embody safeness, warmth, and the comfortable.  Sara will use these images she creates from her grandparents’ home to complete her thesis exhibition in video and painting.

Dawit Petros created film footage in Red Rock Canyon State Park, California as part of the film and performance pieces “The Ocean Wave and Western Longings” that are part of a group of art works considering the travels of Dutch Artist Bas Ader and the Western Frontier of American history within the context of western migrations of non-European Diaspora.

Darren Miller was an artist in residence at Blue Mountain Center, Blue Mountain Lake,NY where he used local businesses as the settings for photograpghic projects exploring queer agit-prop narratives.

Karen L. Schiff traveled to Cuba, New Mexico to research Agnes Martin's adobe house, and its connection to Martin’s painting techniques.

Julie Miller traveled to Los Angeles to shoot film and video based on the city’s urban environment and indigenous light for her film/animation project “The Los Angeles Project” centered on that area’s landscape people, cars, and buildings.

Eileen Yaghoobian traveled to Providence, Rhode Island to compete film footage.

Candice Ivy

Candice Ivy traveled to South Carolina to participate in
the Sumter South Carolina Invitational Festival and to install two site specific pieces related to her work in her thesis exhibition.

Benjamin Tiven has received funds to collect video and film photography in locations in Paris, Rouen, and Le Havre, France to construct a video room based on aspects of the lives of mathematician Andre Weil and his sister, religious philosopher, Simone Weil.

Dawit Petros

Dawit Petros completed the final part of a four part photo-performance piece restaging Glenn Gould’s train ride to the Artic Circle in 1967. t raveling to Churchill, Manitoba, Dawit documented the train ride north, recorded sounds and visuals of the Aurora Borealis and constructed a temporary dome sculpture in the landscape.

Matthew Meta attended the Performance Studies international conference in London, England specifically focusing on global performance art.

Lucy Beecher and Brad Nelson traveled to Amsterdam, Holland for exhibitions related to the Rembrandt 400 celebration and begin studies for a series of baroque style portraits.

Shelley Zatsky traveled to Cuba with the Tufts winter session program to document the Hemingway House in Cuba as part of her thesis work on using images from the World Monuments Watch List of the 100 most endangered sites internationally.

Vasia Markides journeyed to Cyprus to produce a video documentary on the unification of Greek and Turkish boarder towns in Cyprus.
