The School of the Museum of
Fine Arts, Boston, offers single-semester or full-year study
opportunities for students from abroad and within the United States. Few schools
offer the ease of entry into the curriculum that we do. Visiting students are fully incorporated into the student
body and student life and have the freedom choose their own course of study.
The School offers an interdisciplinary, self-directed fine
arts curriculum that is ideal for individual exploration. We are unique in
our ability to offer visiting students the freedom to work across mediums and/or
disciplines. Visiting students determine their
own course of study (with the assistance of advisors) to
achieve their individual
artistic goals. For
this reason the
Museum
School is uniquely
geared to
receive
students for a single semester or
full year, because
students
are able to adapt
the
curriculum to their own
specific needs. Click here for more program details.
At the Museum
School, visiting students benefit from an exceptional faculty—all working artists—who function as teachers and mentors. Faculty are available to speak with students about
any and
all aspects of being a working artist in the
world. Click here to view faculty artwork.
Students who are enrolled full time in a fine arts or design program at
an accredited institution of higher education are invited to attend for a
semester or full academic year. Visiting students enroll at the Museum School,
typically in their third (junior) year, and transfer credit back to their home
school, college, or university. All visiting students are fully integrated with
SMFA studio program courses.
Affiliate exchange
agreements are possible through the Visiting Student program, as well. Students
or institutions who find the tuition rate prohibitive will find this as a viable
alternative. A sample exchange agreement will be provided upon request.
The School of the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, is an accredited institutional
member of the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD) and the Association of Independent Colleges of Art and Design (AICAD.
