Visual Resources

SMFA's Visual Resources is housed in the School's W. Van Alan Clark, Jr. Library and offers a large collection of digital images and associated services.

Within the SMFA's Digital Image Collection, students will find over 3000 images of artists' books, collages, installations, mixed media pieces, paintings, performances, photographs, sculpture, prints and drawings. The collection is accessible to students and faculty. In addition to its own collection, SMFA subscribes to ARTstor, a nonprofit digital library of more than 1.2 million images in the arts, architecture, humanities and social sciences.

ARTstor is currently hosting a collection of images from Visual Resources' Digital Image Collection; these images will be found on ARTstor through 2012.

Visual Resources staff members are available for digital research guidance and tutorials in ARTstor, CAMIO and the Museum of Fine Art's public digital collection. Visual Resources offers digital photography and scanning services to students and faculty. For a small fee, students and faculty can have their own small works digitally reproduced.
